The City of Valletta |
| As the capital of Malta, Valletta is the administrative, commercial and cultural heart of the island. The city covers an area of merely 55,000 square metres, but nowhere else in Malta one can find more churches, palaces and museums than in Valletta. . Even the Second World War, which left about 85 per cent of Valletta’s buildings destroyed or damaged, could not harm the charm that the city still radiates today. With its numerous cultural treasures, Valletta has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1980. The city of Valletta is considered as a modern city built by the Knights and a jewel of the Baroque style.
Valletta ist als Hauptstadt von Malta das administrative, kommerzielle und kulturelle Zentrum der Insel. Die Stadt misst lediglich 55,000 Quadratmeter; an keinem Ort in Malta findet man jedoch mehr Kirchen, Paläste und Museen als in Valletta. Selbst die Bomben des Zweiten Weltkriegs, die 85 Prozent von Vallettas Gebäuden zerstörten oder beschädigten, konnten dem Charme, den die Stadt noch heute versprüht, nichts antun. Mit ihren zahlreichen kulturellen Schätzen zählt Valletta seit 1980 zum Weltkulturerbe der UNESCO – eine moderne Johanniterstadt und ein Juwel der Barockbaukunst.
Siendo la capital de Malta, Valletta es el centro administrativo, comercial y cultural de la isla. La superficie de la ciudad es de apenas 550 mertos cuadrados, pero en ningun otro sitio en Malta se puede encontrar mas iglesias, palacios y museos que en Valletta. Tambien la segunda Guerra Mundial, que causo la destruccion y muchos danos a aproximadamente el 85% de los edificios de Valletta, no pudo herir el encanto que la ciudad todavia irradia hoy. Con sus numerosos tesoros culturales, Valletta fue declarada Patrimonio de la Humanidad desde 1980. Se considera Valletta como una ciudad moderna construida por los caballeros, una joya del estilo barroco. |
